Transport

A great suburb has a community feel, shops, schools and other facilities, but it also needs have good travel connections with other parts of the city, so people living there can easily get to school, work and university or visit friends and family.

At only 11 kilometres from the centre of Auckland Wai o Taiki Bay and Glen Innes tick most of these boxes. With a mix of community facilities, a busy shopping centre, great value housing and plenty of parks and reserves, it’s no surprise that the area is becoming increasingly popular.

Glen Innes also has excellent travel options; a railway station on the north-south rail corridor makes it a good choice for families, couples and young people looking for a suburb to call home, regular bus connections to the city and other areas, and it is conveniently close to motorways going north and south.

Train
Train

Glen Innes railway station is on the Eastern Line of the Auckland railway network. A 13-minute train ride takes passengers into Britomart via Meadowbank and Orakei stations. For those travelling south trains travel to Manukau via Panmure, Sylvia Park, Otahuhu, Middlemore, Papatoetoe and Puhinui. These services operate on a regular and frequent daily timetable. Passengers wanting to connect with the Southern Line can change at stations between Otahuhu and Puhinui.

There are numerous bus stops dotted throughout Wai o Taiki Bay with routes allowing travel to both Glen Innes train station and destinations all over Auckland. School bus routes include some of the schools in the area and there are a number of bus routes for families sending their children to private schools out of the area.

Wai o Taiki Bay is ideal for those wanting to leave the car at home and get around on a bicycle. For commuter cyclists, there are cycleways (some still under construction) into the city and other nearby suburbs. Glen Innes train station is set up to accommodate bicycles if you prefer to leave your bike locked in a rack during the day and catch a train to school, university or work.
