Remuera Golf Club

This private members’ golf club was established in 1934, and members and corporate guests are welcome to enjoy a game of golf and other events. As well as the 18-hole course, there’s practice facilities, a clubhouse, a café, bistro, the 19th bar, and a variety of function rooms, all set among picturesque woods and lakes. Coaching is provided through the club’s Golf Academy.

Kohimarama Yacht Club

Children from about nine years old are welcome to join up and learn all they need to know to enjoy sailing and compete in club events. A voluntary organisation, it caters for young people interested in sailing small yachts as well as learning to race. The clubhouse on the water at Kohimarama Beach is busy most weekends over the summer with children and families learning new skills and socialising together.

Meadowbank Pony Club

Meadowbank Pony Club is aimed at under-25-year-old horse owners, offering grazing for horses, summer hacking, plus programmes for children interested in learning more about horse care and ownership. It also runs courses to help young people develop leadership, mentoring, organisational and safety skills.

Whether you’re wanting some tennis practice, some hard competition, or a bash around with friends or family, Scarbro Tennis Centre is the ideal venue. This public facility has six indoor hard courts and 15 outdoor hard courts. Several are floodlit for evening games, there’s a pro shop, and pilates classes are run from here.

This large, purpose-built centre, on the edge of Colin Maiden Park, provides a venue where people of all ages can learn to play netball in camps and clinics, enter school, club, regional and national competitions, and programmes for coaches and umpires are also run here. The centre holds school holiday programmes for children of all ages which include a mix of crafts, sport, games and other activities.

Glendowie Boating Club
Glendowie Boating Club

Situated at the mouth of the Tamaki River is an ideal environment for this family oriented club and the perfect training ground for aspiring sailors. The club was founded in 1949 and has three classes sailing most days, Mistrals, Starlings and Optimists with fleets of around 60 to 70 boats. The club offers development programmes for every level. Boat ramps provide easy access to the beach while the club house offers a lounge, control tower, galley and ample decks very close to the action for spectators.

There’s something for everyone here, with a 33m lap pool, 20m leisure pool, 15m education pool, spa, sauna and steam room. The swim school caters to for all ages and stages, from babies to adults, and beginners to competitive swimmers. Plus, there’s a fitness centre, outdoor training area and group exercise studio. Managed by the YMCA, this facility has been a community hub for over 40 years.

East City BMX Club

Grab yourself a BMX bike, helmet, long pants and shirt, and a pair of gloves, and join this great local club. New members are always welcome and club nights involve fun and friendly racing, as well as a barbecue. The club also runs programmes to teach children the skills they need to bike safely.

St Heliers Bay Pony Club

Who would have expected to find 14 paddocks, a jumping arena, riding arenas, a cross-country course, stables and pretty well anything else needed for a pony club, all in the centre of the Eastern Suburbs? Rallies, events and competitions are run for members and the general public during the year and the club also runs regular horse management and riding lessons.

Panmure Lagoon Sailing Club

On the sheltered waters of the Panmure Basin, flotillas of yachts bobble about as young, and not so young, sailors learn the ropes. This club trains junior and older sailors and runs sailing competitions and regattas throughout the year. Training courses are available for all ages and stages, and the club has its own fleet of sailing dinghies that budding sailors can hire.

Colin Maiden Park

This 44ha Auckland Council-owned sports ground is home to the University Rugby Football Club and Auckland University Cricket Club, and a home ground for the Auckland Aces representative cricket team. The Auckland Netball and Oceania Football complexes on the adjoining Ngahue Reserve and Tennis Auckland in Merton Road are part of the same facility.
